SURNAMES: KNIGHT
What I am having problems with is that all the Knights that arrived here in Iowa in the 1840s claimed to be from Gallia County, Ohio. The census records for that time period show them as having lived near Monroe - which is now part of Jackson County. There's also a possibility that they farmed just across the border in Gallia County. I'm looking for any information in regards to them. We know that they came to the area from Maryland, most likely Cedric County. The Knights that were born in Maryland and moved to Ohio were Curtis and Hannah KNIGHT. There were a number of children born in Ohio including William and David.

While I find Jacob and Nancy's marriage Nov 1, 1848, Ironton, Lawrence Co. I not not find Henry and Eliza's reportedly on Sept 18, 1890 in Lawrence Co. Many of the children were to have been born in Lawrence Co. But they were not there in any of the census. I only find Jacob and family in Gallia Co in 1870. In 1900, I find Nancy and Robert Calvin COFFMAN, and above them, Henry H COFFMAN, Eliza, Bertha 1891, James 1893, Stella 1895 and Sarah 1898, Jackson Co. as well as, in the 1910 and 1920 Jackson Co. Henry and Eliza's children were: Bertha Jane 15 Sept 1891 m Israel BAER James W 29 July 1893 m 1. Ethel ALESHIRE b 1899 2? Stella May 11 Oct 1895 m. Wells Harlan Henry b 16 Nov 1908 Ethel Matilda b 26 July 1911 m Floyd Stiffler Hazel b 1914/1915 m ? Berry There is also another child in the 1920 Census, Ornie 5 yrs old. it is clear that "grandson" was written on the census record and erased and "son" written. I have found no other record of this boy. Some researchers have given Ethel Matilda the b of 1899, but I have her birth and death certificates which confirm her b as 26 July 1911. The Ethel Coffman born in 1899 is most likely the exwife of James above. She m William Kyle in 1926. I again find Eliza, Charles and Hazel COFFMAN in 1930 Census in Marion, Marion Co. Ohio, down the street from Floyd STIFFLER's sister, Pearl STIFFLER-WESTON-McNEAL. If anyone is researching this family, I need all the help I can get as the information on the internet so far just isn't working. My sons are g-grandchildren of Henry and Eliza thru Ethel "Dolly" Coffman and Floyd Stiffler.

SURNAMES: JOHNSON, BARLOW, EWING
I am descended from John BARLOW Jr. (Pocahontas County Virginia) and Emily E. JOHNSON (Pocahontas County Virginia, Gallia County Ohio). FACT - Emily & John left Virginia for Missouri. John died in Missouri and Emily brought her children back east, settling in Walnut Township, Gallia County Ohio. Emily is buried in Old Walnut Cemetery and I have visited her grave. My problem is Emily's family: KNOWN Emily E. Johnson married John Barlow Jr. 13 January 1842 in Pocahontas County, Virginia. KNOWN Emily named a son William EWING Barlow (born 5-6-1847). KNOWN Emily was the daughter of Sarah and her father was a Johnson. MOST LIKELY James Johnson, son of John and _____ (Ewing) Johnson married three times. His first marriage was 1795. He was probably born 1770 1775 and he died prior to 10-24-1818 because (FACT) his son William's marriage bond was signed by William's stepmother Sarah. KNOWN James Johnson married Sarah Beatty 12-31-1812. KNOWN Bachelor William "Uncle Billy" Ewing married "the widow next door" Sarah Johnson about 1821. KNOWN William Ewing died 6-3-1858. His widow was 78 at the time of his death. KNOWN Sarah Beatty Johnson Ewing is buried BESIDE her husband William Ewing in Duffield Cemetery, Pocahontas County (West) Virginia (From 1936 Cemetery Survey). BIG TIME MIX UP Sarah Beatty Johnson was suppose to move to Jackson County Ohio and died there. OUR Sarah Johnson married William Ewing and remained in (West) Virginia even after death! UNKNOWN How many times was this woman married and what is her maiden name? KNOWN James Beatty married Sally Burnsides 4 May 1797 in Bath county Virginia (Sally = Sarah). QUESTIONING Research has pushed the above marriage to follow Burnside / Beatty / Johnson without Ewing as Emily E. (Johnson) Barlow's family. THIS CANNOT BE. THEORY There are two families with similar names being mixed up. 1. Emily Barlow was a Johnson, 2. Her mother did marry a Ewing, 3. If Sarah Johnson was living in Jackson County Ohio at the time Emily returned from Missouri with several small children, then why did Emily not go to be near her mother, instead lived with a family with whom she was not related? The Jackson County Ohio part is just not working.

SURNAMES: DICKESON/DICKASON/DICKERSON, LONG, HOLCOMB, RUSSELL, EVERETT/EVERTS, MILLER, SOFRANKO
Some of the DICKESON/DICKASON's I'm looking for are on the Jackson site. John (m. Mary RUSSELL), Reuben, probably Alex/Alexander. Some names of marriage and/or descendants are LONG, EWING (Lydia), RUSSELL (Mary), HOLCOMB (Mahettable or Hetty), MILLER (Elizabeth), EVERETT/EVERTS (Daniel/Rebecca), SOFRANKO (Elizabeth), many more. John, by his son' Enoch's census was born NC, went by DICKESON (but so did Asa and Gideon from PA?). I think John had a brother Reuben/Rheuben and a son Reuben (brother to Enoch, may have been a Thomas or William too). Enoch's biography says he was born Jackson County, states his parents names, and childrens names (Enoch R., Sarah Ann, Rebecca, Niles, Thomas A., Reuben H., John W......John W. and Reuben H. died in the Civil War) but not that of siblings. Mary RUSSELL was born in VA or NC. Enoch's census says NC, Rueben's says she was born VA. She may have been a daughter of Enoch RUSSELL who was also known to have been in VA and NC. 1850 Blooming Grove Census lists a Mary with children William, Lydia, Barrack, and Rebecca. Anybody know if this Mary is a part of the above family? This is my mother's family, her grandfather was Enoch RUSSELL DICKERSON (aka Russell or E. RUSSELL m to Elizabeth MILLER), son of Enoch b 1822, grandson of John. The family is also known to have been in Meigs, Vinton, and Athens. Any clue as to the origination of this family?
