JACOB A. LONG,
Acting County Treasurer of Jackson County, was born on the 24th day of February, 1847, in Jackson C. H. He was the youngest of four children whose parents were Andrew Long and Eliza James. His grandparents were amongst the first pioneers of the county, coming from the "Old Dominion" at an early date. The early education of the subject of this sketch was very liberal, and received at the schools of his native place and at Athens University. In the spring of 1868 he became deputy auditor, which office he held one year. In 1869 he became acting treasurer of the county, and has performed the duties of the office ever since. He was married on the 10th of October, 1870, to Ella Dascomb, of Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio. Politically, he is a republican. Religiously, he is a Methodist. Mr. Long on December 10th, 1873, bought out the firm of C. S. Dickinson & Co., dry goods and groceries, in Jackson and has exerted the controlling influence of this business ever since. He took in Asa Farrar as partner in 1874. They carry on the business now under the name of Long & Farrar, and do a large business, second to none of a similar nature in Jackson. Mr. Long is also a stockholder in the Iron Bank of Jackson. His time is well occupied with the duties of treasurer and his other business relations.
