CHARLES C. JAMES,
Acting Clerk of the Courts of Jackson County, Ohio, was born on the 29th day of December, 1842, in Jackson. He was the sixth of twelve children whose parents were John D. James and Sarah Mitchell. His father was a native of Virginia, an early settler of Jackson County followed through life agricultural pursuits, and is yet living at an advanced age in Jamestown, Jackson County. His mother was a native of Jackson County, and at an advanced age, lives with her husband in Jamestown. The early education of Charles was obtained at the common school. He was early taught to labor on the farm. At the age of nineteen he accompanied the 36th O. V. I. to the field as a member of Co. K. He was with this regiment in various battles and near Winchester was wounded in the left arm by a piece of shell, a wound that incapacitated him for future service. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1865. In October, 1866, he was elected Clerk of the court of Jackson County. Was re-elected in 1869. He is now acting Clerk of Court, and has discharged the duties of this arduous and responsible position for about nine years. He was married on the 6th of April, 1869, to Hannah E. Perry, a native of Sciota County, Ohio. He is a republican in politics, and Presbyterian in religion.
